It was believed that during this liminal time, the veil between the living and the dead grew thin, allowing spirits and ancestors to visit the world of the living.
When Christianity spread through Europe, the Church shifted its feast of “All Saints” to November 1st, merging with the timing of Samhain. Over time, the two traditions blended — creating a season that honors the mystery of life, death, and rebirth.
